Overview
1st day : Marrakesh – Dades gorges
We depart at 8 am. from Marrakesh, cross the High Atlas Mountains. After the Tichka pass, we leave the main road, take a side road to Telouet Kasbah, which belonged to the Glaoui family (Lords of the Atlas), it is in ruins now after the French left and the last Pasha fled.
We continue along a beautiful connecting road and eat lunch at Ait Ben Haddou. When lunch is over we can visit the Kasbah. It is the most famous in Morocco and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Then the road takes us to the Skoura Oasis, where many ancient kasbahs are located, some, in ruins, stand along the palm trees. Then the road runs through Kela’a M’gouna, the Valley of Roses, we will stop to see cosmetic products that are locally-made from the valley’s vast supply of roses. We stop and spend the night in a guest house in the Dades Gorge.
2nd day : Dades gorges – Merzouga
We take a walk by the river after we eat breakfast and then we continuing to the unique gorges of Toudgha. When we have lunch, we will eat in the Toudgha Gorges or at the Bivouac at the Erg Chebbi dunes. We drive there by way of the Ziz Valley and the towns of Erfoud and Rissani where the king's family is from.
Tea is in the afternoon and there are camel rides from one to two hours in the Sahara. Late in the afternoon is a beautiful sunset from the top of the dunes. It’s an incredible sight (250m). Dinner is later that evening and we spend the night in a nomad tent at the foot of the lovely dunes.
3rd day : Merzouga – Ouarzazate
If you are an early riser, you can watch the unbelievably gorgeous sunrise, it is also the time when the colour of the dunes and the shadows play together, another incredible sight. We head westward to the Dra’a Valley will take us along the l Saghro mountains via the villages of Tazzarine (featured in the film ‘Babel’) and in N’Qob, we have lunch overlooking the beautiful mountains. Later, we drive along the Dra’a Valley towards Agdez and by the river, passing oases and Kasbahs. Kasbah Tamnougalte, one of the oldest in the Dra'a Valley is situated near Agdez, we can take time to visit here. Parts of this Kasbah are in ruins and the other parts fully occupied. Later we cross the Tizi-n-Tinfifite pass to Ouarzazate and spend the night there.
4th day : Ouarzazate – Marrakesh
We have breakfast and then visit Kasbah Taourirt in the town. Kasbah Taourirt and belonged to the Glaoui family, the Pashas of Marrakesh. We drive north and the main road take a side road to Ait Ben Haddou, also belonging to the Lords of the Atlas, the Glaoui family. This is the most famous Kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage site. This site is a well-known for being the backdrop to many Hollywood blockbusters films. We then continue to Ounila valley which has beautiful and rich villages, spectacular mountain views to Telouet. We will stop to visit the Kasbah and have lunch in the mountains. In the afternoon, we will reach Marrakesh.
