Overview

1st day : Marrakesh – Ouarzazate
We depart at 8 am. from the hotel or riad in Marrakesh, cross the High Atlas Mountains. After the Tichka pass, we leave the main road, take a side road to Telouet Kasbah, which belonged to the Glaoui family (Lords of the Atlas), it is in ruins now after the French left and the last Pasha fled.
We continue along a new and beautiful connecting road. We have lunch at Ait Ben Haddou. When lunch is over we can visit the Kasbah. It is the most famous in Morocco and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. We spend the night a short distance away in Ouarzazate

2nd day : Ouarzazate - Merzouga
After we have breakfast, we head south to Agdez, the head of the Dra’a Valley. Visit the oldest Kasbah in the valley here. Farther south at Tansikht we can turn east and follow the line of Bani Mountains towards Merzouga. We stop for lunch in N’Qob and enjoy the scenery as we overlook the mountains. We pass through Tazzarine, (in the film “Babel”) and arrive at the bivouac in Merzouga, where we have tea and you can get comfortable and settled. You can then take a camel ride to watch the sun go down over the dunes, later in the evening is dinner and then we spend the night in a nomad tent.

3rd day : Merzouga – Toudgha Gorges
Waking up early, you can watch the gorgeous sunrise, when the colour of the dunes and the shadows play, together. It’s and incredible sight. After we eat breakfast, we take a walk in the dunes before we leave for Tinghir and the Toudgha gorges, we will pass Rissani which is the original seat of the current King’s family and then Erfoud, which is famous for its dates and the October date festival. Erfoud is well-known for the multitude of fossils found in the area as well. In Toudgha, there you can walk along the river through the gardens. You spend the night in a guest house in the Toudgha gorges.

4th day : Toudgha gorges – Ouzoud
Once we finish eating breakfast, we head north to Tamtattouchte and into the mountains south of Imilchil. It’s a famous town and there is a marriage festival every September. The road is gorgeous and winds around slowly here. During winter, the snow makes it impassable sometimes. Reaching Kasba Tadla from the main road from Marrakesh to Fes (Tadla means a bouquet of wheat in Amazigh) and lies on the left bank of the Oum Er Rabia River) you spend the night here in a riad. After we go to Kasba Tadla, then Beni Mellal, we see the Ain Asserdoun waterfalls. They are a great source of irrigation and supply all the drinking water for the villagers of Ouled Ayad, Ouled Drid, Mghi among others. Asserdoun means “mule” in Amazigh ! There is a beautiful park where the waterfalls are located. The park is well kept and has great design. From the “castle” just above you can look and see the town and a plain below that is filled with olive and orange trees.Traveling back from the High Atlas we can stop and visit the gorgeous lake of Ben El Ouidane where the beautiful mountains come down to meet the water ! You can take a long walk and enjoy the peace and the greenery in the area and watch the fisherman. We continue to the Ouzoud Waterfalls, where we will be spending the night.

5th day : Ouzoud - Marrakesh
After eating breakfast we can visit the falls, they are one of the most gorgeous sites of natural beauty in Morocco. The countryside surrounds us and offers views of red cliffs, oleander and doves. Babary apes live here and you may see one of them ! You can take a short walk to the top of the falls and you can see the river stretching from the magnificent falls. We head back to the road in Marrakesh at Demnate, we drive back to Imi-n-Ifri, in local dialect that means "door to the cave". There is a natural rock bridge formed by an underground cave system, that collapsed. The views are incredible from here as the Méhasseur River flows between the sheer and vertical rock walls.
