Overview 

1st day : Marrakesh – Ouarzazate 
M We depart at 8 am. from the hotel or riad in Marrakesh, cross the High Atlas Mountains. After the Tichka pass, we leave the main road, take a side road to Telouet Kasbah, which belonged to the Glaoui family (Lords of the Atlas), it is in ruins now after the French left and the last Pasha fled. We continue along a new and beautiful connecting road and have lunch at Ait Ben Haddou. When lunch is over we can visit the Kasbah. It is the most famous in Morocco and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. We spend the night a short distance away in Ouarzazate.

 

2nd day : Ouarzazate – Dades Gorges 
We have breakfast and head out towards the Dades Gorge, we pass the Skoura Oasis, where many ancient kasbahs, some in ruins, stand along the palm trees. We follow our route through Kela’a M’gouna, the Valley of Roses, famous for it’s roses, there is a Rose Festival every May. We make a stop to see cosmetic products made locally from the valley’s plentiful flowers. These products are well-known throughout Morocco and are very favored here and hold high value. We take an off road from here to have a better view of the landscape. We can stop at caves used by numerous Berber nomads pass by and claim home there. We can enjoy tea with them before going to the Dades Gorge for lunch. You will still have half the day to spend walking in the valley or just realaxing. You can also walk the fields and gardens. Then a guest house is where you will spend the night.

3rd day : Dades – Merzouga 
A We have breakfast and travel a short time to Tinghir and the unique Toudgha gorges. You can walk and see the steep sides of the gorge and the narrow view of the sky above. Then, we continue on to the Chebbi dunes via Tinjdad, and the Oasis of Tafilalet near Erfoud, and it’s famous Date Festival, and Rissani, the seat of the Alaouite family of the current king of Morocco. Between Tinjdad and Erfoud, you will be able to get into the incredible underground water cannels deep below the earth, they are always cool and stop the evaporation of this source of irrigation. In Erfoud itself, we can stop and look at the workings of thousands of fossils made into all artefacts. We will have lunch in a Berber village on the way. When we arrive in bivouac, We can have a glass of tea and take a camel ride and watch the gorgeous sunset from the top of the dunes. Dinner is later that evening and you spend the night in a nomad tent at the Dunes. 

4th day : Merzouga – Agdez 
Early risers can watch the gorgeous sunrise, when the colour of the dunes play with the shadows, it’s an incredible sight. We return to the bivouac on camels and continue to the Dra’a Valley by way of the village of Tazzarine (featured in the film ‘Babel’), and on to N’Qob for lunch. In the afternoon we join the Dra’a Valley with its palm trees full of dates and ancient villages. Later in the afternoon, we stop in Agdez at the oldest Kasbah in the Valley, Tamnougalte, for the night. It was built in the 17th Century.

5th day : Agdez – Chagaga 
Following breakfast there will be time for visiting the rest of the Kasbah. We will then take travel off-road and along some of the ancient caravan between the mountains and the river, we will pass villages and gardens so that you will get a better perspective of the way of life along the oases. We drive to M’hamid, the gate to the desert, to Erg Lihoudi, where and have lunch. Then, we continue to the Erg Chagaga dunes (300m) with 60km of off-road driving. This route includes different features of the desert ; ‘erg’, ‘reg’, ‘hammada’, oases. The dunes you will see are far away from civilization, in the desert proper ……. And the peace and the vast amount of the sand are an overwhelming sight ! Once there you can take a camel ride for an hour and a half. In the evening a dinner and a good night’s sleep are in a bivouac of nomad tents. 

6th day : Chagaga – Fint oasis 
After we have breakfast, we take the road through another 90km of desert with various scenery; Lake Iriqui, the beautiful mountains and fossils. Lunch will be in Foum Zguid, the first village after the desert, we can take a refreshing shower there. Then the drive back north is along paved roads by way of the village of Taznakht, famous for its Berber carpets and rugs. Before we get to Ouarzazate, we go to the mountains to the hidden oasis of Fint, it once was the head of the caravan route, the caravans converged before their goods, slaves, gold and salt were distributed across Morocco. We spend the night in a traditional auberge. 
 
7th day : Fint oasis – Marrakesh 
After we have breakfast, we drive back Ouarzazate to Kasbah Taourirt, once owned by the Pashas of Marrakesh, the Galoui family. Then the road goes north again to Marrakesh, we can stop for lunch in the mountains and we will be in Marrakesh by the late afternoon.
